The Other Side of Strength: Why Men Need Self-Care Too

When we think about self-care, men are rarely part of the picture. The images are usually soft robes, scented candles, and spa days—beautiful, but often disconnected from the reality of what our men need.

But self-care is broader and deeper than that. It’s rest. It’s nourishment. It’s a return to wholeness—and that matters deeply for our fathers, partners, brothers, and sons.

For Black men especially, the pressure to always be strong, composed, and “unbothered” often leads to suppressed emotions and neglected health. But strength isn’t just what you carry—it’s also knowing when and how to release the weight.

Here’s how we can help men, in our families and communities, reconnect with care in ways that feel natural, affirming, and grounded.

1. Make Room for Rest and Reflection

Many men move through life in constant motion—working, leading, protecting, solving. But rest is just as important as action. Creating small pockets of stillness throughout the day can reduce stress, regulate mood, and improve sleep quality.

A simple practice: sipping a calming herbal tea like King’s Defense at the end of the day. It encourages digestion, soothes the nervous system, and signals to the body that it’s safe to slow down.

2. Support Mind and Mood

Mental health is health. But for men, especially Black men, it can be hard to find safe spaces to express emotions or take a breath without judgment.

One quiet way to begin: daily affirmations. Not the overly-polished kind, but real, grounding reminders of worth, clarity, and purpose. Keep a small card on the mirror, by the bed, or in a wallet—words carry medicine.

3. Keep Care Simple, but Consistent

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. A few intentional steps go a long way. A spritz of Royal Reset Facial Mist in the morning or evening can refresh and hydrate the skin without fuss. For those who keep a beard, a nourishing balm like Crown & Glory softens hair and conditions the skin beneath, making grooming more comfortable and healthy.

Even tools like a silicone facial scrubber can gently exfoliate and improve skin texture, especially for men who shave or spend time outdoors.

4. Fuel Energy Naturally

Many men are looking for sustainable energy—not the kind that crashes or wears out the body. That’s where herbs like rhodiola, ashwagandha, and ginger come in. The R.P.T. Tincture was formulated to support endurance and focus—especially before workouts, busy workdays, or long mornings.

It’s a plant-powered reminder that strength can come from balance, not burnout.

A Loving Nudge

This post isn’t just for the fellas reading—it’s also for the women who love them. You know their rhythm. You’ve seen the moments when they needed a pause but pushed through anyway.

Whether it’s Father’s Day, a birthday, or an ordinary Tuesday, consider sharing something thoughtful to remind him that his well-being matters. Not because he earned it, but because he exists.

Sometimes care looks like a cup of tea, a deep breath, or a balm that softens more than just skin—it softens the pressure.
